Broomfield Secures a Playoff Spot against Greeley West

The Eagles Win Big in their Final Home Game to Clinch a Playoff Spot

Carson Orvis, Staff Writer

Broomfield came into this game needing a win to make the playoffs, and they were able to get the win over winless Greeley West pretty easily.

The game started with Broomfield’s defense getting off the field right away and giving the offense an early opportunity.

The offense took advantage and scored very quickly in three plays. Following a run play, QB Cole LaCrue (Jr.) stepped up in the pocket and hit DJ Detwiler (Sr.) open downfield then hit Josh Dunn (Sr.) for a touchdown.

The defense for the Eagles continued to make stops, and the offense was rolling through the first half.

LaCrue threw three more touchdowns in the first half, another to Dunn, one to Detwiler, and one to Tristian Caudill (Sr.). Running back Anthony Pinkney (Sr.) also scored in the first half.

Going into half, Broomfield led 37-0.

At this point Broomfield had sealed the game and clinched the playoffs.

Josh Dunn added to the score with a pick-6 in the second half, and the game ended in a 44-21 final score.

Eagle Analysis
Broomfield did what they needed to do and what they were expected to do in this game.

The Eagles got off to a fast start and kept the momentum on their side and put the game away early.

The defense played well and the offense scored easily from the start.

A Look Ahead
In the first round of the playoffs, Broomfield faces Longmont on the road. Longmont beat the Eagles earlier in the year, this is a very winnable game.

Broomfield’s loss to the Trojans came all the way back in week 2 and a lot has changed since then.

Since week two the Eagles have gotten a lot better and coming off of a big win to end the year, this is a very winnable game.

The key to winning this game will be to get pressure on Longmont’s QB. In the week two matchup, the QB had too much to sit in the pocket and make his reads. He’s also a threat as a runner and getting some pressure on him could get him out of his rhythm which would be huge for Broomfield.

The offense has to take advantage of opportunities in this game. The Eagles need to score early and capitalize on opportunities their defense gives them.

This game is no doubt going to be a tough game on the road, but if Broomfield can play physical and take advantage of opportunities, they can win this game.
