Broomfield Eagles Boys Soccer Starts Season Off Strong

On Tuesday, August 27th, Broomfield’s boys varsity soccer team started off their season with a 2-0 home game win over Cheyenne Mountain. The highlights of the night were undoubtedly when sophomore Russell Tuccio scored both goals to give the Eagles the victory.

Tuccio’s first goal came early in the second half, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Broomfield’s second goal of the night came in the closing minutes of the second half, with forward Gustavo Gutierrez, 12, getting an assist by passing the ball to Tuccio, who tapped it in, giving Broomfield the 2-0 win.

Emotions were high as the rest of the team surrounded Tuccio, embracing him and giving him words of encouragement.

“Russell is going to be a really important part of our team this year, and certainly into the future,” said head coach Jim Davidson. “Russell was the man during training; he was getting into those positions in training where he scored in the game. I wasn’t super surprised. I think it was a reflection of his training.”

Coach Davidson has high hopes for this year’s program and thinks that if they stay on the successful track that they are on, then they could succeed into the postseason.

Broomfield followed their season opener with an impressive 4-2 victory over Centaurus High School the following Tuesday.
