In the summer of 2017, Broomfield High School underwent a lot of construction: new heating and air systems, new carpet replacement, new ceiling tiles, and a new paint job. Over the last few months, there have been rumors on how multiple places on campus are either being added or remodeled. For instance, the two main focuses that are being redone for the year of 2018 are the library and the cafeteria.

According to Craig Boccard, the library has met its current remodeling stage back in the 1970’s and over the years there have been some minor tweaks made to it. Though it has been kept in good condition, Mr. Boccard feels there are a lot of upgrades that have to be made. “From lighting, to access, to study areas, and things like that. Things that are gonna be really nice to encourage students to use it as a really efficient study area. All those things will be available with the new layout and the upgrades and so forth that are going to occur,” Mr. Boccard explains.

He also explains how the cafeteria will be going through the same process during the summer. The cafeteria also had the same cell-block look from when we were next to a middle school back in the day. “They made a multi-use cafeteria that can serve both schools. The school has grown tremendously and so that’s the original cell-block look that we have down there, said Boccard.” Furthermore, not only did Boccard say that there will be changes to the cafeteria, but he also said that there will be changes to the ramp next to it. “There will also be some reconfiguration with the ramp to make it more accessible — more ADA accessible. There’s going to be an elevator that gets put in over by there. So it’s going to look a lot different,” said Boccard.

Due to a 675 million dollar bond that got passed to the BVSD a couple years ago, Broomfield agreed on the idea of upgrading and received 16 million dollars of that bond. With that money, we will be getting a new field house just outside the stadium for sports teams to go into before a game or at halftime for example. The field house, according to Boccard, will have two team rooms (home and away) alongside an updated concession area and expanded bathroom access for those who attend the games supporting our Broomfield teams.

Lastly, our school from this point on will have some major changes over the next year or two. Boccard said “that the school has used 40% of that bond money they have gotten already.” With 60% left they can make this school a lot better for us students currently here now and those who come in the near future and will be proud of bleeding blue and calling themselves an eagle.
