Fire & Shelter in Place Drill Interrupts Third Hour

Friday, December 6, Broomfield High School practiced a tornado and fire drill during 3rd period, back-to-back.
Many of the students were frazzled. Tenth grader, Danny Hruby, was confused with the organization. “For our class, it was very self explanatory of where to go, but half of the other classes were not given enough time to get to their tornado places before the fire drill started,” he said.
Mrs.Carrie Thrasher, Spanish teacher, separated her Spanish 3 boys and girls and found shelter in the bathroom.
While many students understood why they would choose that location (there’s no windows), some didn’t understand the position they were in.
For example, all the girls stood around; no one got on the floor with their heads covered, like how they were taught in elementary school.
The door wasn’t closed either, because there was a stopper on the ground that couldn’t be moved.
Additionally, there was a fire drill right after.
Students left the bathroom, walked outside, and stood in the parking lot, not the field, because the field was covered in snow.
