The girls swimming season has kicked off with the first meet last Wednesday, and so far it looks like it will be a promising season. With over 40 girls, the team is bigger than it has been in years past which means more camaraderie and more competition.
This year, there are many new, young competitors ready to take on the season. Many of our best girls come from year-round club teams and aren’t even taking a break from that for the high school season. “A lot of the practice times line up so I can just stay at the pool for both of my practices,” said senior Rebecca Thompson, “it’s a lot of work, but I enjoy the sport and love to be in the pool.”
After the first meet, the team already had three relays and numerous individuals qualify for the state meet. Freshmen Ellianne Effland and Maelynn Higgins have both achieved individual state times and are excited to keep working through the season.
So far, the team this year looks promising. All of the girls are enthusiastic and ready to improve their times and strokes.
