Free College App Day is Coming Up

Hampton Traylor, Staff Writer

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019 is a free college application day for Colorado high school students. For one day only, every community college and public university, as well as some private universities will waive all application fees.

With roughly 5,467 BVSD students in the free lunch program (fall 2018) and 1,049 students in the reduced lunch program (fall 2018), the goal is for students to be able to successfully apply to higher education programs regardless of their financial situation.

Bigger learning institutions such as the Colorado School of Mines and Colorado State University do not have any extra steps needed in order for the fee to be waived. Simply submit your completed application anytime between 12:01 am and 11:59 pm on October 15th and the fee will be automatically waived. When submitting your application to colleges on free application day, it is recommended that you have your application 100% complete and reviewed before the 15th.

For other schools such as the University of Colorado Boulder, a few extra steps and a waiver code is needed as well. The University of Denver, University of Northern Colorado, Colorado Mesa University, as well as a few other participating schools will also need a few extra steps. Some schools in Colorado such as Community College of Denver, Colorado College, Regis University, Johnson and Wales University of Denver, and more are free to apply all year around. Some private and occupational schools are participating as well.

College students who are looking to transfer to a four-year university, are also able to get their transcript fees waived by many community colleges, in preparation for Colorado free app day!
