Heathers The Musical

Gianni Martinez, Staff Writer

Coming soon to the Broomfield community, the Thespians of Broomfield High perform their newest production, Heathers! A musical based on the 1989 film about teenagers in high school trying to find their place and where they fit in. Broomfield’s production features leads Kyle Hoffman, starring as Jason Dean, and Caroline Frenzel as Veronica Sawyer. We also have the Heathers personated by Avery Sandstrum, Megan Patterson, and Emma Kegerreis, and the jocks performed by Bryan Lucchesi and Jack Vanderberg. During auditions for the parts and during rehearsals, Jennifer Bryner, the musical director, stated, “All these students have worked really really well together and have quite the dynamic.”

Almost everything in life requires some people to step up and be a leader to help the process of any goals go smoother. As for this musical, there has to be a leader. “Francie Traxler has actually stepped up and become quite the leader. She’s awesome, not only has she helped us with assistant directing, she has also stepped up and has been one of the students taking charge of our #MakeItBeautifulCampaign and has been an all-around godsend.” Francie is also extremely excited for this production. “I feel really excited for the show. All of the actors are working incredibly hard and the crew members especially have been committed to putting on a visually gorgeous show that sounds great, looks great, and of course the actors doing really really well too,” Francie stated.

Though the show is about to kick off on the 15th of February, there were always challenges along the way to getting there. “I think our hardest challenges with this particular show is the content because you have kids going through very emotional dilemmas and mental problems and bullying and harassment, so balancing that with the funny moments in the show as well as doing it in a tasteful way,” Francie said. Alongside her, Kyle Hoffman, one of the lead characters and a thespian for three years now, stated how memorization was his hardest challenge for him, but was able to overcome that with a lot of practice. He also stated how he was really excited for this musical and can’t wait for the day to come.

As for the Thespians of Broomfield High, they are currently making their final adjustments and working hard to make sure they give us a thrilling musical for all to see and love. With all their hard work and dedication to this play, it’ll for sure be a joy to watch. Come see them in action February 15-17th at 7:00 pm and another showing on the 17th at 2:00.
