Kicking and Winning

This past Thursday, November 8th, the boys varsity soccer team kicked their way into their fourth consecutive State Championship. The semi-final game began at 7:00, taking place at Echo Park Stadium. The boys played Fort Collins, who is the third seed in the State tournament, whereas Broomfield is placed seventh.

When playoffs begin, each team is given a seed which determines who they will be playing against for the rest of the games. The seed is based upon how well the team did in their season. If a team played better in the regular season, then they are given a higher seed and vice versa.

At the semi-final game, Broomfield beat Fort Collins 3-1. Fort Collins scored in the first 10 minutes, startling the boys. Rather than discouraging the boys, they scored later in the first half, tying it up with Fort Collins. During the second half, the boys scored two more goals leading to their win in the semi-final game and qualifying the boys for the State Championship.

This upcoming Saturday, November 11th, the boys soccer team will make their way to Dicks Sporting Goods Park to play Denver East at the State Championship. Denver East is the first seeded team in the State tournament, a very skilled team. Denver East beat Grandview in their semi-final game with a final score of 1-0 in overtime. Two very talented teams, this State Championship will be one great game so be sure to support your boys soccer team at State this Saturday starting at 3:30!
