As October comes to an end, holidays are just around the corner. Despite the chilly weather, the fall season brings some of the best and most fun outdoor activities. Here are the top five suggestions for the best fall activities to keep you and your friends entertained and excited for these big holidays.

#5. Pumpkin Patches
Nothing screams fall like pumpkins. Visiting pumpkin patches with friends can be a great activity this fall. It is something that only happens during the October-November season. Not only are they great places for photoshoots, but after you pick your favorite pumpkin, you can do so many different things with it. Some of the most popular options are carving them, painting them, or using the pumpkin in different recipes.
Where should you go to get these pumpkins?
Some recommended places include 7th Generation Farm (open from 12 pm-7 pm) and Anderson Farms (hours of operation vary, so check their website). It is a little pricey, but Kamryn Wimmer (‘27) said, “It was so cute, and there was so much to do.”
#4. Dressing Up For Halloween
As kids, dressing up for Halloween is one of the most exciting parts of the year. As we get older, we mainly stop dressing up because we aren’t kids trick-or-treating anymore, or we aren’t going to a costume party, so we see no point in dressing up. But even if you are staying home, dressing up can still be just as fun.
Part of that fun is picking out your costume and deciding who or what you want to be. Just because you aren’t wearing that costume to go trick-or-treating doesn’t mean you can’t participate. Keep your costume on and hand out candy! And it’s always fun to take pictures and videos in a cute/fun outfit.

#3. Watching Scary Movies
Scary movies are good all year round, but something about watching scary movies in October is an unmatched experience. Thankfully, this season also brings new horror movies to theaters, so if you are bored with the old, go try out the new.
Of course, no movie night is complete without your friends. Tife Giwa (‘27) said, “I don’t really like watching horror movies on my own because I get scared easily, but watching them with my friends makes it fun and makes me less nervous.” One of the easiest things you can do is get your friends together, grab your favorite movie snacks (which are hopefully Halloween-themed), and put on some scary movies.
#2. Corn Mazes
Fall is full of opportunities and activities, such as corn mazes. This is another activity that is only during the fall season, so take advantage of it. You can use the corn maze in so many different ways, like you and your friends splitting up to see who can get out the fastest, separating from each other and trying to find each other with just your voices (not phones), hide & seek, taking cute pictures, etc.
The nice thing about corn mazes is that they are, almost always, located at the same place as pumpkin patches are, and maybe even some fall festivals. Just like the pumpkin patches, some will be nicer and bigger than others, but the location isn’t necessarily the fun part; it’s what you do and how you spend your time at the location.
#1. Haunted Houses
What’s more fun than going out on a dark, chilly night and being scared right out of your socks? I’m not sure, because going to haunted houses during the spooky season is a fan favorite. The adrenaline and thrill you get when being chased and jumped out at with your friends is bound to leave you with a stomachache from all your laughter.
The Frightmare compound, for example, will render you with memories and goosebumps. Delaney Meehan (‘26) attended Frightmare with a group of her friends, and she said, “It was pretty chill until the end when we were getting chased with a chainsaw. We couldn’t stop laughing.” So even if you are majorly scared before, and maybe even dislike scary things, doing haunted houses with your friends and people you are comfortable with will guarantee you a great time.
No matter what, make this fall season count. Go out, try new things, and make new memories. There are so many more activities you can do this fall, so if you finish everything on this list, don’t fret because the fall season isn’t over, and neither are your opportunities to go out.
If, however, fall season really isn’t for you and you aren’t that excited, it’ll be the winter holiday season in no time (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa), which brings a whole new genre of entertainment, so there is always something to look forward to.
We hope that as these next few months turn colder, instead of locking yourself indoors by yourself, you now have a few ideas to keep your heart as warm as summer.
