For the few sports that Broomfield does not offer, our Eagles travel to many different schools to be able to play the sports they love. The experience is very different then playing a sport that is housed at your home school.
Downsides:
There are downsides to playing at different schools. For example, Aiden Waldvogel (Junior, Monarch mountain biking) said, “Sometimes it can be hard because there are different schedules, which can make timing weird.” Flexibility is a necessity for playing at other schools, and it can make the time after school a bit chaotic. Making it to practice at a whole new school or game/race times during the school day can be a huge roadblock to our Eagles who participate in their sports.
Ethan Lott (Junior, Mountain Range Lacrosse) talked about one of the biggest challenges for him being the odd or inconvenient practice times and the conflicting schedules.
Upsides:
There are many roadblocks presented but also a lot of bonuses. Lott said, “You get to play with so many different people that you get a different experience than most athletes.” The people you play with or interact with at practice aren’t always the people that you will see the next day during school. This can hinder teams when it comes to team chemistry and how close they can be as a team. But, it can also be a really cool opportunity to be exposed to new people. Aiden Waldvogel said, “I enjoy getting to be with people I normally wouldn’t see every day.” Participating in sports at different schools is an awesome way to build connections with people from different schools or sometimes even all over Colorado.
At the end of the day, it’s great that we can accommodate all different kinds of sports, even if it is not directly offered at Broomfield. Our Athletic Director, Mr. Zappia, said, “One of the benefits is creating community across the school district, so it’s good that our kids get to be teammates with kids that go to other schools.”
Our Eagles are powerhouses not just a home but all over Colorado. Being able to play almost any sport they like is just one of the many things that make it great to be an Eagle.
