As of last weekend, we’ve officially “sprung forward.” Unfortunately, this means we have lost our precious hour of sleep, but it also means we gained an extra hour of sunlight. Even though this seems like a disappointment, there are actually many benefits of having extra sunlight in the evening.
I mean do you want it to be completely dark when you are trying to do fun activities in the summertime?
Let’s check out some reasons why you should be more excited for daylight saving.
More Sun = More Fun
Daylight Saving Time means it is perfect when wanting to do outdoor activities including going on hikes, riding your bike, or even just spending time relaxing in a park. For example, Broomfield High School junior Christna Regli plans to go on walks close to her house.
Extended Evenings for New Adventures
With the sun hanging around longer, there is suddenly more time to do other fun activities after a busy day. Even if you couldn’t get around to what you wanted to do in the day time, the longer evenings are perfect for you. Whether it is catching up with friends or hanging out with animals like Avery Wood (‘25) does when she spends time at the barn or Savannah Darby (‘26) who enjoys walking her dog. You can also go on an evening jog, or just take in the extra hour of sun such as doing your homework outside, just like Rachel Gerber (‘25) does with the longer evenings. No matter what activity it is you want to do, it is the best excuse to make the most out of your evenings.
Goodbye Winter Blues
Winter can be tough with the bitter cold and not much sunlight. Thankfully, with daylight savings there is more time for natural sunlight which is often a good mood booster.
So get out of bed and go enjoy every extra minute of sunlight.
