Have You “Hurd” That Track Season is Sprinting Our Way?
Hey Eagles! Mr. Hazzard’s track season officially starts Monday, February 24th. If you are looking forward to joining his wonderful team, pre-season training is every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Starting at 4:05-5:30 pm outside the band-room in the 400s hallway.
There’s No Such Thing as Cold Weather, Only Inappropriate clothing
Eagles, to those who are looking forward to this wonderful sport, it comes at a cost of being chilly. It is highly recommended to bundle up when you are running. Why you may ask?
Running in the cold is more difficult on the body, and it can also increase the risk of injury and reduce running performance. First, your risk of windchill and hypothermia is high. Cold wind increases heat loss more quickly than warm wind.
Here are some examples of what to wear:
Base layer: Wear a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin. This can be a long-sleeve thermal shirt and thermal leggings.
Mid layer: Sweatpants and sweatshirts will suffice in keeping you warm as well.
Outer layer: You can wear a light jacket, but be sure it’s not too thick or that may affect your running performance.
Accessories: Thermal hats, beanies, and gloves are very important if you don’t want to catch a cold. Let’s not forget about socks to keep your feet warm.
In direct words of Mr. Hazard”
-On a regular basis you should wear some sort of compression wear, preferably something you can sweat in.
– For gear, bring running shoes strictly for athleticism (PSA: If you wear air forces, vans, or crocs, you will unfortunately be sent home).
– If you are looking forward to trying out, track is a non-cut sport unless you quit yourself. Reminder: track and field is challenging, and it exerts your body at 100%.
-A quote the team uses is “water the bamboo.” Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants, and when it sprouts it can go 2-3 feet in a day. So as an athlete, you want to rapidly grow as a person.
