Broomfield boys basketball just wrapped their regular season, and they finished 14-9. They will host Mullen (who finished 8-14) on Wednesday, February 23.

Eagles Season Recap
Throughout the year, Broomfield had some hot stretches and some cold stretches. The Eagles started 4-0 but lost three of their next four, then won four of their next five.

The Eagles at home this season went 7-5, losing some very tight games at the end. Centaurus and Legacy were both able to leave Broomfield with wins on game-winning shots. Horizon also beat the Eagles in a nail-biter. These were all very winnable games, but the ball didn’t bounce the Eagles’ way at the end.

On the road, Broomfield also won 7 games, going 7-4. Some big road wins were at Arapahoe, a one-point win at Arvada West, and a rivalry win at Holy Family.

The Eagles were a similar team at home and on the road, which helps come playoff time. Being able to win on the road will be crucial in this playoff run.

Broomfield has been very up-and-down this year scoring. They’ve had some big games where they score 70-plus, and games where they score 55 or less.

The Eagles had a good regular season but felt it could have ended much better if the end of games went differently. They’ll look to clean up the late-game mistakes for the playoffs and win the close ones when it matters most.

Round One Matchup
In the first round Broomfield will play Mullen in their home gym on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00.

Mullen comes in 8-14 looking to pull off the upset. They played a tough schedule, with some of their losses coming to Cherry Creek, Regis, and Douglas County. They’re definitely a better team than their record shows.

Mullen has also been on-and-off this year. In one game against Arapahoe this year, they lost by 26 but when they faced off again, Mullen won by 17. They can get hot and score a lot of points, but they can also go very cold.

The Mustangs overall shooting numbers aren’t super impressive. They shoot around 38% from the field and 31% from three. The three ball is a huge part of their game as they attempt 23 a game.

If Broomfield can defend the three point line well, they should be in good shape.

Mullen will come in and play hard, but this is a game Broomfield should win and the numbers show it. The Eagles are a better all-around scoring team, a tough defensive team, and have the home-court advantage.

If they can play tough defense and control the game from start to finish, we’ll see the Eagles in round two of the playoffs.
